Akal Takht Jathedar Gyani Gurbachan Singh today said people from all
walks of life in Punjab have been asked to assemble here on March 23 to hold
discussions on the death warrant issued to Babbar Khalsa militant Balwant Singh
Rajoana. The decision was taken at a marathon meeting of five Sikh head priests
in the presence of the Jathedar. Talking to mediapersons, the Jathedar said
people from various Sikh political and religious organisation have been asked
to reach Teja Singh Samundri hall here, where a strategy would be announced to
save Rajoana from the gallows. "Everybody will be given adequate time to
air their views with regard to saving Rajoana's life," he said. Rajoana, a
Babbar Khalsa International operative, is a co-accused in the killing of former
Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh in 1995. Additional District and Sessions
Judge, Chandigarh, Shalini Nagpal had recently issued a warrant of death
sentence against Rajoana, according to which he would be hanged on March 31 in
Patiala Central Jail.
